Spanish term

título

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general)
I'm trying to translate the Spanish NIE form (Número de
Identidad de Extranjero, required by foreigners wanting to do business in Spain) for a friend. There's a passage where one has to specify the name of one's legal representative and some kind of "título" on which the legal representation is based. The phrase goes:

*Título en base al cual se ostenta la representación:*

Is this some kind of instrument or contract signed between the solicitor and his client, or does it simply refer to the solicitor's professional title? Any hint will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

capacity

in which representation is exercised

Personally I do not think is is something so specific as a legal document. "A título de" imply means in what capacity( company attorney? company chairman?

a título de
en calidad de o con la justificación

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I asked a native speaker and even she didn't know what was meant here but was more likely to think it referred to the lawyer's qualification. So I'm going for this one, although I do take Tom Thumb's point about authority. Thanks to everyone!"

(Legal) Title

Based on the Title of the section this text comes from:
"4) DATOS DEL REPRESENTANTE LEGAL DEL SOLICITANTE, EN LOS CASOS DE EXCEPTUACIÓN DE LA OBLIGACIÓN DE PRESENTACIÓN PERSONAL DE LA SOLICITUD"

It is clear that this is just referring to the Title held by the applicant's representative (they want to know that he/she is indeed a legal representative, basically), in which case I would keep it simple, something along the lines of:
Example sentence:

Title held by legal representative

Legal representative's title

(written or titular) authority

Could be either written or based on a company position. Authority is wide enough to cover a document or rank.
Example sentence:

representative capacity, he is not liable on the instrument if he was .... in question just as it reads, as excluding any defense based merely ... authority of the common law decisions. But a comparison of the two ...
