English term

hace nublado, hace sol

Non-PRO English to Spanish Other weather
in the same weather report, he wrote hace sol and hace nublado for another day in the week. One sentence also read hace nublado en parte. He is only in spanish 1, but without the right foundation, he will not be able to build on it for the future.

Selected

it's cloudy, it's sunny

está nublado (better than 'hace nublado') -> it's cloudy
hace sol -> it's sunny
nublado en parte -> partially cloudy

I think this should have been posted as a Spanish>English question.

Hope it helps!

the text is emphasizing the fact that \"hace nublado\" is wrong, as opposed to \"hace sol\", which is right.

Puede que sea un regionalismo, pero en España suele hacer más sol que haberlo

Está nublado, hace sol

Nublado is an adjective. Sol is a noun.

You can say, hace un día nublado.

I do not know Esperanto. I hope you understand my ENglish!

Hace nublado: incorrect
hace sol: incorrect
hace nublado en parte: incorrect

In Spanish, some weather expressions use the impersonal form of the verb 'hacer' (hace frío, hace calor=it is cold, it is hot).
Some other expressions use the verb 'estar', like the ines in question here:
it is cloudy=está nublado
it is sunny=está soleado ('hay sol' would also be correct)
it is partially cloudy=está parcialmente nublado

Hope this helps!

neutral Ester Vidal (X) : ¿Por qué es incorrecto "hace sol"?
11 mins
Porque con sol, nubes, etc., que son sustantivos concretos, las expresiones correctas son con el impersonal 'hay'.
agree Andrea Ali : y hoy llueve! O está lluvioso!

Claro que sí. Gracias
neutral Pablo Fdez. Moriano : De hecho es más común decir "hace sol" que "hay sol", sin embargo se dice "hay nubes", pero no *"hace nubes". "Está soleado", aunque es la traduc. literal de "it's sunny", sólo se suele decir en español si mencionamos antes "el día"

No sé en qué regiones usan 'hace sol', de lo que estoy segura es que se trata de un 'regionalismo'. Ver explicación arriba a Ester.

¿Are you trying to get it in English or are you just asking whether the original expressions in Spanish are right?

If the second applies, then my colleagues are right: "hace nublado" is wrong, (quite a typical mistake in fact) since "nublado" is an adjective and the sentence simply does not work. It should be ESTÁ NUBLADO,

and ESTÁ PARCIALMENTE NUBLADO.

Another possibility for the second sentence would be: hay bastantes nubes.

Kind regards!
