Gene silencing: A mechanism by which cells shut down large sections of chromosomal DNA. Gene silencing is done by incorporating the DNA to be silenced into a form of DNA called heterochromatin that is already silent. The process of gene silencing is important for the differentiation of many different types of cells.

Nga aspekti gjuhësor... E mbështes përkthimin (pa të drejtë vote :), aq më tepër që shoqërohet nga shembulli i gjetur, por nga aspekti gjuhësor besoj se ka vend për të lëvruar paksa me fjalët. Më pëlqen, për shembull, fjala që ke përdorur në shpjegim, Juliana: ndrydhja e gjeneve. Nga vetja po mendoja: "platitja" e gjeneve. Këto do ishin më me vend nga ana gjuhësore, pasi "hesht" është folje jokalimtare, dmth sugjeron që gjenet po "heshtin" vetvetiu. Besoj se shkencëtarëve mund t'u duhet pak ndihmë letrare në këtë rast :D. Punë të mbarë Ledja
