Norwegian term

Portør og Transportavdelingen

Non-PRO Norwegian to English Other
At Ullevål University Hospital in Oslo the former "Serviceavdelingen" ("Service Department") has been divided in two. The department responsible for internal and external transportation is called "Portør og Transportavdelingen".
What is a normal name for such a department in England and in the United States?
More information about their activities can be found at http://www.ulleval.no/default.asp?file=transport.xml

Yes Department of Transport (DoT) is a gov. department - so it could be misleading, I agree.

Transport Office does not sound un-English IMO
There are dispatch offices, freight offices, mail offices (also transport related), and so on.

You could call it simply \'Transport Service\' - no need for department or office
Peer comment(s):

disagree Helen Johnson : Dept. of Transport sounds like UK Government DoT. Transport Office = very un-English. Maybe 'Carriage and Transportation Dept.''

(hospital) orderly service/station

Orderlies move patients around but they also perform all manner of physical labor. Patient Transfer Department is a more euphemistic variant. There may be other terms - if you're not in a hurry wait for more suggestions.

Carriage and Transportation Department

Department of Transport sounds like UK Government. Transport Office sounds very un-English.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Norbert Hermann : think you are a bit too hasty with the un-English comment
