non altrimenti specificato - not otherwise specified

NAs stands for "non altrimenti specificato", i.e. the requesting doctor didn't give any further indications on the X ray to be performed.

Yes, NAS in Italian = NOS in English, as noted by SJLD.
Note from asker:
You mean "N.O.S."? as in Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS)
I did think of NOS, but wasn't sure as it sounds superfluous next to something so generalised, standard and routine...
Peer comment(s):

agree SJLD : yes, typical billing code acronym (NOS)

routine chest x-ray

NAS=rx torace di routine
Peer comment(s):

neutral Joseph Tein : I think that 'NAS' is superfluous in the original Italian version, but since the author wrote it I think it should be included. NAS = NOS in its English form.

I'm quite sure it's superfluous - after all, what does routine mean anyway? Besides, NOS appears to be used with syndromes and tumours, but not in relation to chest x-rays (not at least in English).

Example sentence:

NOS (Not Otherwise Specified), in italiano NAS

Non Aliter Specificatus = not further specified

Latin abbreviation
Peer comment(s):

neutral Joseph Tein : The standard usage in the medical field, however, is 'not Otherwise specified'.// Your definition is correct in the dictionary's sense, but remember that Simon is working in a specific medical context (and btw NOS is standard US usage also)

the question is: "what does nas stand for ?" the Latin term is not unknown in medicine, so why should one distort or adapt it to British usage?
