Dutch term

overslaande stem

Dutch to English Medical Medical (general)
In een sheet met allerlei medische termen, staat o.a. dit - overslaande stem - waarvoor ik het Engels equivalent niet weet.

breaking voice

I believe this is better than cracking. Found several sites that seem to support this.

I found this, funny enough, by looking at IATA where I found this use http://iate.europa.eu/iatediff/FindTermsByLilId.do?lilId=159... which is "overslaande of brekende golf" e.g. a breaking wave. Wondered if it was also used for voices, and there it was...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jack den Haan : Peter, a breaking voice is exactly the phenomenon your refs describe: changing voice characteristics in adolescence. That's not the same as 'overslaande stem', which is the phenomenon of temporary voice change under stress or emotion (but please see PS).

Reference:

Van Dale N-E

met overslaande stem = with a catch in one’s voice
zijn stem sloeg over = his voice broke

I'm not sure if the second option is correct and would opt for the first myself.

PS for Peter: Van Dale seems to confirm your answer, but I have my doubts...
