folklore maxims / practice of anesthesia
I am translating a list of folklore maxims in the practice of anesthesia, in a paper for anesthesia providers. I am not sure about the meaning of some of them so I prefer to check with you, colleagues :)
The first one: ( very intriguing, I must admit)
topic : understanding patients
helpful maxim : Make your pediatric patients as pristine as possible when wheeling by the parents' waiting room.

as clean and well cared for as possible
As parents we want our children to be clean and well cared for. As ill children normally have runny noses, the medical personnel are advised to see that they are "pristine" looking when passing their parents' waiting rooms. It is a symbol of good care if their little faces are clean and we equate this with well looked after.

as close as possible like a healthy, regular person
I believe this is what is meant. In other words, to avoid all appearances of any type of treatment or anything that would not look normal as if the child were not a patient.

as he/she was normally sleeping
so "arrange" its body and head to look normal
and if returning feom the surgery, clean him/her from blood or other body fluid/material
I guess it means this :)
'pristine' is also used in the (slightly metaphorical) sense of 'clean/intact'

in the "original" state
Basically, you need to present the child in his "original" form, looking as normal as possible, close to the state in which he was brought in ( before anesthesia). Meaning, the child should not look scary to parents , esp. those without a medical background.
