I thought this might be a cooperative but I'm not really sure. The text states that it started out as a limited liability company and later became a PLC.

a cantina sociale (aka cooperativa) is a 'wine making centre' where one can take their grapes for processing into wine. At one stage, the Italian government had tried to ban the making of wine in the home and so establishing a requirement that all wine be produced under controlled conditions - cantine sociali/cooperative. Often the smaller DOC wines are produced in small areas and it is cheaper and the product is more consistent if produced by a cantina sociale. the best example of this is Ruche' from Castagnole Monferrato in Piemonte, there are only some 30 growers with 5-6 wine producers (of which 1 is the catina sociale).
