Wetting agents can significantly reduce the irrigation requirements of soils, and provide relief from the symptoms of dry patch (water repellent areas of soil), which is a problem we are seeing more and more.
Dry patch is caused by a build-up of water repellent deposits in the root zone as a result of the breakdown of organic matter in the thatch and organic layers of the turf grass profile. These deposits coat the sand and other soil particles, and when the soil dries out, they become hard and take on a non-polar charge and become water repellent.
The polar-charged water molecules in the soil are not able to adhere to these non-polar coatings, and therefore no available water is held in the root zone, leaving the grass to suffer drought stress.

Trawa ta na intensywnie uprawianych greenach tworzy bardzo szybko warstwę tzw. filcu (thatch). Jest on źródło wielu zmartwień greenkeepera, gdyż nie przepuszcza wody do głębszych partii korzeni. Na skutek tego tworzą się suche plamy (dry patch). Filc zatrzymuje znaczną część nawozów. Skutecznie zlikwidować można go za pomocą wertykulacji oraz areacji.
