Spanish term

prescribir

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general)
"Los dividendos en efectivo aprobados por la asamblea y no cobrados prescriben a favor de la sociedad luego de transcurridos tres (3) años a partir de la puesta a disposición de los mismos."

"The dividends in cash approved by the meeting ... prescribe...". ¿¿??

Prescribe es la primera opción que encontré (según Cabanellas) pero luego también encontré en otra bibligrafía "to be barred by limitations"...

¿Qué opinan? ¿Qué traducciones posibles existen según sus experiencias?

Gracias!!

revert

Prescribe is perhaps not the best option in this context. certainly the meaning in this case is that due to the lapse in time the funds become the property of the company in question. One alternative in this context, if in fact the company is holding the funds and is the source of the funds that are voted by the general assembly, would be revert. ie the funds revert to the company

Duvall & Associates, Inc. BUSINESS ADVISOR NEWSLETTER September 24 ...In other words, if an employee does not spend 100% of contributed funds for medical reasons in a given year, unused funds revert to the company. ...
