(signal) use

... is the literal translation, but perhaps not the most appropriate translation in the context.

Two things to bear in mind here:

1. The heading essentially means 'what the signal is used for'. If it is obvious that the the subject concerned is signals, 'Use' or 'Used for' might be adequate.

2. The English understanding of 'signal' is generally distinctly less abstract than the German understanding of 'Signal'. When 'Signal' is used to designate a path or medium that carries information instead of the information being carried, 'channel' may be preferable in English (e.g. Rücksignal = return channel or back channel).
