A process to correct the concentricity and shape of a grinding wheel. As distinguished from dressing, which removes bond material to expose fresh abrasive grains, truing is designed to reduce vibration and produce a uniform cutting rate for the grinding wheel.

Truing är ju ett verb och verktyget kallas på engelska Truing tool. På tyska heter verktyget Abrichter. På svenska fungerar, enligt min åsikt såväl avrivare som slipskiveavrivare för själva verktyget. Verbformen bör blir avrivning, som då täcker alla de runda slipanordningar som kan avrivas.

Genom avrivning kan en slipskiva eller smärgelskiva göras helt rund för att förhindra vibrationer. Avrivning görs med en avrivare alternativt slipskiveavrivare.
