English term

Mean absolute improvement of trough FEV1 of 10-12% change

English Medical Medical (general)
Contex: Efficacy of a new drug

Primary endpoints compared to placebo

***Mean absolute improvement of trough FEV1 of 10-12% change from baseline (increase of 200-240mL)***

The above sentence is unclear to me.

In case I am missing something here, can you please rephrase/explain it for me?
Thank you in advance for your time

Example of Mean Absolute: Greenwich Mean time = Time absolute, the time the world sets their clocks to. Just thought it may help understand it.

explanation

The basic meaning of the sentence is that the mean value (a specific sort of average) of the trough FEV1 was 10 to 12% better than the baseline (reference) value, which corresponded to an increase of 200 to 250 ml.
I'm not sure of the exact meaning of FEV1, but I suspect it has to to with respiration (ventilation), and the 'trough' probably refers to the minimum region of a curve ('dip') of a curve. In any case, this terminology is most likely standard in the field.
