This is not a transitive thing being done (like artificially transferring genetic material), but rather an intransitive absorption. While I like absorption, I think passage works nicely.

IMHO passage on enemmän kauttakulkua, transfer viittaa enemmän siirtymiseen. Sanotaanhan esimerkiksi DNA transfer into cells ja transfer of genetic material into cells.

COMT catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to the hydroxyl group of catecholamines. : I think the difference is that DNA transfer is a larger process with multiple active steps--this is just talking about something crossing a cell boundary,which is why I also like absorption. Would we talk about "transfer" of water into hydrophilic tissue?
