I think your exact wording will depend on the complete phrase. \"To be on top of (a/the) situation\" is also commonly used in English.

In a favorable position.

I have things under control; I am in a favorable position; I am in charge of the situation; I am in control of things. Just think of a person riding a horse is usually on top, high on the back of the animal.
