Bestandshaltung

Real Estate
I've tried to avoid maintenance because of the possible confusion with "Instandhaltung", but what other word is there for holding onto a developed property instead of selling it, renting it, etc.? These are just two instances; the word pops up about 4 or 5 times.

Holding (or retaining) the property as an investment
Or you could use '...the property in the (investment) portfolio'.
In the IZ dictionary we translated 'Bestandsimmobilien' as 'portfolio properties' - we couldn't find a more exact term. The closest alternative, 'property holdings' is not quite equivalent.

: dauerhafte? long-term holding as an investment is a tautology.//The problem lies with question, not with your answer. Prefixing with dauerhaft could conceivably change the answer.

Hmmm. There are also short- and medium-term investment strategies. But surely everything is relative...

Bestandhaltung

: not sure about "retention" part, but "portfolio" is what we seem to be after here

: incorporates well the idea of dauerhafte - which should have prefixed the question.
