Tantas veces va el cántaro a la fuente, que al final quiebra.
Significa que el personaje espera que no lo haga demasiadas veces so pena de que le pase algo, pero pienso que no hay que explicarlo, sino mantener la alusión a la fuente y dejar que el lector con su cultura personal, lo descifre. O sea, que es el caso de mantener la cita a medias del original. Criterio de traducción.
