I am translating a CV. The guy was attended and graduated from officer candidate school as Militärökonom (National People's Army-ex-GDR).

I don't see any need to elaborate on it - the term is clear enough in itself, and in any case your job is to be a translator, not a commentator. If it is particularly relevant to the job the guy is applying for I am sure he will elaborate on it himself elsewhere in his application.

yes, but how would you elaborate on it. There is no such education in the US and UK -- to my knowledge, just talked to an ex-officer?
