2 points: a) a 'Druck' is a print so any solution needs to take that into consideration. b) I have just spoken to my infant school teacher sister who has checked her documentation. She is pretty sure they have no specific term for this. Umschreiben?

I think what is meant is when a child paints something on half a piece of paper, ie one butterfly's wing, and then folds the unused side of the paper over this painting to get a mirror image - ie matching wings. I'm not sure you'll find a precise term.

To be honest, when I looked at the picture on the German website, I immediately was reminded of the ink blots used in Rorschach tests.. :-)

A colleague from another list has suggested "blot painting" - I think that comes closest and is what you describe above
Don't think it's particularly studied, the children are pre-school age

agree Helen Shiner : Agree with foldover prints. Blot painting: sorry to be a pain, but although blot painting uses the same technique, I still don't think it is necessarily what is meant here. ie doesn't have to be blots, can be more studied.

agree Stephen Reader : Hi, Nicole, with you re butterflies, I think we called it 'making a **butterfly print**' at schl. This pending a better time of day to confirm/browse. Rorschach more generic, omits the folding. So maybe '...b.prints of both butterflies & trees'

This is clearly not a direct translation, but I think it is a generic term for such things.

agree it would include origami, but I bet it is what the teachers say: 'let's do some paper craft'. I just don't think we are as specific as German school teachers on this one.

Rorschach print

My first thought but also as suggested by Nicole - I find the idea transferred to art technique in some Web refs and not confined to the usual fields.
