German term

Wissende

I am wondering what to put here - 'those in the know', 'those that know about such things', the 'in crowd'??? I have a mental block, which doesn't help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. BTW, XXX stands for the name of a luxury hotel in Morocco.:-)

TIA

Sheila

Selected

connoisseurs

As in people who are "connoisseurs of fine wine" etc. In this context, I would choose a word that has slightly "exclusive" overtones.

"connoisseur" means literally "someone who knows" and one of the implications of the word is that of educated understanding, so I would be happy with it.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you all for the great suggestions. I hesitated between this one and cognoscenti, and wish I could divide up the points. "

otherwise, "people in the know" as you suggest.

cognoscenti

This term is used in the kind of context you have here. It is of course originally Italian, but it is freely used in English contexts.

Few hotels in the world are exceptional enough to wow the truly discerning

I like the use of discerning in this context as it implies not only knowledge but also experience in assessing hotels and informed judgement. With a term like this, the important thing is to find a way to weave it into the sentence IMHO
Peer comment(s):
