Does anyone know the translation of the French use of the English term "raid", as in "raid sportif"?
Raid en kayak de mer. I know we talk about "kayaking excursions" but "raid" means it's more challenging. They diffrentiate between "Randonnées", "Raids" and "sorties" Kayak. So I could say "excursion", "trip" or "tour" for the other two but what do I put for "raid"? Could it be "rally"?

I've always rather wondered about "Raid". Esp cars crashing across the desert. It does really seem like a "raid". I guess you leave few traces in the sea and there's no-one to run over, so perhaps it a challenge

: I checked out how they'd describe white water rafting and they go on about 'adrenaline experiences' & adventures but annoyingly avoid a generic term. I think your suggestion conveys the thrill / challenge best so far. Rally feels a bit tame.

just to add a few details on the difference between randonée and raid in french both includes going from a point to another(sortie would be just going out and coming back), the difference would be in the physical intensity required, randonée would be a sportive trip or excurtion and raid would be more physical .so i guess expedition would be the best.

| Thanks a lot, I hesitated but in the end I'm going for "kayaking challenge" as I think expedition is more like an adventure and doesn't imply difficulty. "rally" might eb a synonym. I gues some "raids" are just excursions and some are challenges depending on event |
