This term appears to be specific to Québécois. I found the following document where the term is translated as "securities custodian."
"La Banque Nationale a d'ailleurs pris les devants et mis en place des règles pour protéger ses clients qui investissent dans des hedge funds. Elle a mis en place une structure qui lui assure la propriété complète des positions. C'est-à-dire qu'aucun fonds des clients n'est directement investi dans les fonds de couverture sans que le fiduciaire du fonds (la Banque Nationale) qui agit alors comme gardien de valeur et agent de transfert ne soit impliqué dans les transactions."
