French term
valideur

Tech/Engineering
Thanks,
Harold

HD3 ticket validator for traditional paper tickets, bar-code tickets and contactless smart card; can be installed on buses or on the ground.
On to the boarding platform. All tickets, except for monthly passes, must be validated prior to boarding. The validation machines operate similar to time clocks. Just insert your ticket, and the date, time and location will be noted. If multiple riders are sharing a 10 round trip ticket, which is allowed, validate the ticket as many times as there are riders present. And be sure to set together on the train. Once your ticket has been validated, keep it prominently displayed. For your convenience, clear plastic ticket holders will be provided at stations platforms.

Validating Metcard Tickets
When passengers validate their Metcard each time they begin a new trip, they are helping provide usage data.
Data taken from validating machines helps analysts to understand what times are the busiest on public transport. This is the process of measuring supply (how many trains run between 7:00am to 8:30am) against demand (how many people are at the train station). From here, analysts can suggest when and where more trains are needed.

validation terminal
I think this is appropriate since we are talking about some sort of an "intelligent device" rather than a simple stamp.
Supposedly, by validation time the ticket is already purchased and in the hands of the traveler.
The ticket can also be read (bar code I guess) by the terminal.
