Dutch term

cascowoning & wegtekenen

Dutch to English Other
I have the Van Dale explanation in Dutch of what it is, but wondered what the English term was. 'Wij konden in het CASCO wonen tenzij ik alles opgaf en WEGTEKENDE'.
Proposed translations (English)
0 tract home
0 HULL OF SHIP

tract home

This meaning is given in addition, by the van Dale 'Handwoordenboek Nederlands/Engels. I suppose that living in the hull of a ship has more dramatic impact :-).

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Van Dale describes it as a 'woning van een reeks waarbij wel de omvang maar niet de indeling van elke afzonderlijke woning van tevoren is vastgelegd.' This is obviously what a tract home is..."

HULL OF SHIP

Casco generally means "hull" as in ship, though in insurance terms (ie car insurance) it means "fully comprehensive".
But in this case I would go for "hull", depending of course on the background....

Wegtekenen is literally "signing away", for instance signing rights to property away.

Hope this is some help....

We could live...

" We could live in the hull (of the boat, ship) unless I gave everything up (or 'dropped all claims', if this fits into the context) and waived all further rights by signing ". I think the latter ('waived all further rights by signing') defines WEGTEKENEN here in the most appropriate way.
