I think there is a typo it shouldn't be "bano protesta..." but "bajo protesta".

es una cuestion religiosa muy compleja, en mi opinion. los angloparlantes involucran a Dios en muchas letanias oficiales, billetes, honra a las banderas, himnos etc., mientras que en los paises latinoamericanos se vive una separacion de iglesia-estado mas tangible. cuando en ingles se dice "under oath" es porque el declarante o quien sea ha hecho ya un juramento ante Dios y/o ante la Biblia, y jura decir la verdad. En espanol, por ejemplo, no involucramos a Dios en este tipo de cosas, se hacen declaraciones "bajo protesta de decir verdad".

Particularmente, cuando hago interpretaciones en juicios, cuando se toma el juramento o protesta de \"do you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, etc... SO HELP YOU GOD\", al final en lugar de SO HELP YOU GOD yo les pregunto \"LO JURA USTED?\" Alguna gente consideraria que aquello podria ser jurar en vano, y puede uno meterse en un conflicto religioso sin salida, o como decimos, en \"camisa de once varas\".
