English term

stir the pot (bob marley)

Non-PRO English to Spanish Art/Literary Music letra bob marley lyric

Discussion

Taña Dalglish Feb 16, 2008:
Dear llonacho/María/Kathryn: As previously posted in "Stir it up", Bob Marley transforms the simple act of cooking a meal in a "pot" (which does not in any shape of form refer to ganja/marijuana/pot) into a highly charged metaphor for a sexual encounter
Yes Kathryn: You are right and I am posting an additional link I have just found:

In many cases, songs such as “Put it on,” “Guava Jelly,” “Stir it up” or "Lick Samba" have no more meaning other than a celebration of life and sexual prowess. Of course, there’s also the attraction of the seductive language that’s involved in “Guava Jelly”: “Come rub in my belly like a guava jelly.”

Or in “Stir it up” where Bob transforms the simple act of cooking a meal into a highly charged metaphor for a sexual encounter:

I'll push the wood
I'll blaze your fire
Then I'll satisfy your heart's desire
Said I'll stir it, yeah, ev'ry minute, yeah
All you got to do is keep it in, baby

Kathryn Litherland Feb 16, 2008:
clarifies the meaning of "stir it up". Yes, there is the other meaning which you stated in your question, but that doesn´t capture the meaning here. Hope this all helps! Un abrazo. TD
Taña Dalglish Feb 16, 2008:
llonacho: the term "stir it up" refers to "stirring the contents of the pot of food". The wording in the third to last paragraph Your recipe, - darlin' - is so tasty,
When you show and stir your pot. (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)

Stir it up; little darlin', stir it up. Come on, baby.
Come on and stir it up: little darlin', stir it up. O-oh!

(stir it, stir it, stir it together)
Since I got you on my mind. (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh) Oh-oh!
Now you are here (stir it, stir it, stir it together), I said,
it's ok
To see what we could do, baby, (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Just me and you.

Come on and stir it up; ..., little darlin'!
Stir it up; come on, baby!
Come on and stir it up, yeah!
Little darlin', stir it up! O-oh!

I'll push the wood (stir it, stir it, stir it together),
then I blaze ya fire;
Then I'll satisfy your heart's desire. (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Said, I stir it every (stir it, stir it, stir it together),
every minute:
All you got to do, baby, (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Is keep it in, and

(Stir it up) Oh, little darlin',
Stir it up; ..., baby!
Come on and stir it up, oh-oh-oh!
Little darlin', stir it up! Wo-oh! Mm, now, now.

Come on and cool me down, baby, when I'm hot. (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Your recipe, - darlin' - is so tasty,
When you show and stir your pot. (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)

So: stir it up, oh!
Little darlin', stir it up; wo, now!
Come on and stir it up, oh-ah!
Little darlin', stir it up!

The song is all about sex, and no one could sing about sex like Bob Marley did!

Y en 'stir it up,' puedes poner sacúdelo...
