Considering (but am not happy with): His head was numb from the noise ...

agree Kcda : Maybe you will hate to hear it again but throb-bing is present tense. Throbbed, it already happened. :) / Ignore my comment. I was confused myself. Was throbbing = past continuous apparently (so I.Jones pointed out later)

agree Kcda : Yes actually also a very common way of expressing the same. The noise was pounding into his head OR within his head. :)
