Italian term

fibre schenoidi

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) histological report
From a microscopic examination of an ulcerative vegetative lesion of the stomach fundus:

"neoplasia mesenchimale costituita da cellule fusate e da cellule epitelioidi spesso vacuolizzate. Tali cellule appaiono immerse in uno stroma denso collagenizzato con fibre schenoidi e focalmente mixoide."

I've found no hits at all for schenoide, schenoidi, schenoid, schenoidal etc. and nothing useful in my dictionaries w.r.t to possible typos (it's a typed report so there's no bad handwriting at play).
Can anyone else help?

Discussion

Alfredo Tutino Dec 6, 2007:
I'd say you're right - it must be a recent term. I couldn't find any "fibre schenoidi" in my books as well. I rather suspect that the English word is based on "skein", and the Italian one is simply a "localization" of it...
Monia Di Martino Dec 5, 2007:
I asked a physician. "Schenoide" doesn't exist. It may be cheloid at the most.

as for spelling, I'm sure you know best!
Note from asker:
You're right, I did - I think you've got it! I'll use "skeinoid" as the more common spelling.
