"Corregimiento" dates from colonial times. In Panama, where I lived (1960s-70s), it was a local administrative district with a "corregidor" who, I believe, was appointed, not elected.

: A "corregimiento" is part of a district, let´s say Corregimiento de Sta. Ana, District of Panama.

Thanks. If I recall correctlyin in the early 1970s Torrijos set up a national assembly based on the 505 corregimientos: Panama City got only a few. I don't recall the corregimiento of Chorrillo being under Santa Ana, but you might be right.

As "municipio" (municipality) precedes it on the certificate, it is implicit that the "corregimiento" is a sub-division of the municipality.
Incidentally, in Colombia "corregimiento" is used only in rural areas, where there are no towns as such.
