my above 'agree' comment got truncated; it should read:

see e.g. The cubes can be stored in relational databases ... ROLAP), as separate, high-performance multidimensional data ...

agree Marjon : Interesting... So then the translation would be "...the description of the cubes or the datastructure.." Could you explain what that means ? (I'm just curious) Thanks :-)

cubic datastructure

Hmmm... I've given it some thought because "beschrijving van de kubussen of datastructuur" doens't seem to make much sense.

My guess is that it was meant to be something like "kubusachtige datastructuur" or "kubussen van datastructuur" or "matrix-achtige datastructuur". I'm pretty sure that "of" shouldn't be translated to "or".

Maybe this text has been translated from english to dutch somewhere in the past, that might explain the introduction of "of" ....

Good luck

To be honest, I don't know exactly what a 'cube' is in this context, but a Google search with 'cube + "data structure" ' yields quite a few relevant hits and you might be able to deduce the meaning. It's certainly jargon, and possibly short for 'cubic data structure'. Particularly in the latter case, the author of the original could be saying 'the cube or data structure' in the sense of stating two alternate names for the same thing (one specific and jargon, the other more general) -- in which case it would be good to use 'the cubes (data structures)' as the translation.

that should be \'cubes or data structure\' and \'cubes (data structure)\', to match the original

Thanks for your explanation! Reading the dutch text, it just didn't make much sense to me. I can't really imagine that 'kubussen' is used very often in dutch in this context. However, I especially like your last proposal -> 'cubes (data structure)'. In my opinion the dutch version 'kubussen of datastructuur' suggests too much that you're talking about two very different things. If only it had been something like 'kubussen (datastructuur)' there wouldn't have been any reason for confusion.

By the way, I think you deserve the Kudoz points by now for most relevant input.
