Discussion

teju Nov 1, 2007:
Sounds like slang for the same thing, a diamond that is huge.
Navlai (asker) Nov 1, 2007:
i need an adverb in Spanish
Navlai (asker) Nov 1, 2007:
sorry, its not "shocking" but "socking"
David Russi Nov 1, 2007:
How about an entire sentence for context? Is this about an actual gem?

Si quieres hacer referencia al tamaño, podrías poner:

gigante, enorme, descomunal, gigantesco, colosal, monumental, inmenso, mayúsculo, bestial, brutal, desmedido...

Considerando que es un registro bajo, a lo mejor funciona mejor eso de bestial o brutal. Gracias por el agrí - teju :)

un sorprendente y extraordinario diamante

Lo de "great" to traduje como extraordinario, lo de "shocking" como sorprendente....

Ahora que veo que no es shocking, sino socking:
quizás algunos adjetivos serían magnífico, extraordinario, estupendo, colosal....

o si no, poner extremadamente enorme, extraordinario, etc.

un extremadamente enorme/grandioso/colosal/magnífico diamante

Creo estar segura que puede traducirse así, al ver que se trata de socking y no de shocking...

un inmenso diamante/un diamante inmensamente grande/como un puño

Socking is indeed emphatic, but only in conjunction with great or good as far as I know.

What I haven't found is a translation which reflects the informal, rather irreverent tinge of the original.

Then it occurred to me to abandon the adjective tack altogether - como un puño is not uncommon in association with diamonds, and of course the actual accuracy of the size is not relevant.
