En un artículo de origen español relacionado con la crianza de los niños, se incluye lo siguiente: "...(antes) los niños eran un cero a la izquierda en las familias (ya saben el modelo `cuando seas padre comerás huevos´, etcétera) " y luego se explica que ahora esa situación cambió completamente.
Entiendo que ***"CUANDO SEAS PADRE COMERÁS HUEVOS"*** es una frase que se les repetía a los niños para indicar que cuando fueran mayores podrían hacer cosas que de pequeños no se les permitían, pero no ubico una equivalencia o dicho similar en inglés.

You all gave very good phrases, but I chose this one for my translation because it's a real proverb (and I liked it ; ) I must confess I was almost going to use this mix "When you are a grown-up, you can do grown-up things" until Carol's answer appeared ; )

Do as I say, not as I do.
An English speaker would say a similar sentence ("When you're a mother/father..."). This was the only similar idiom I could think of. I don't know if it will help!
