Hello,
A rather easy one, for once! Who can tell me how to say in English that little 3-digit number on the back of the credit card that prevents fraudulent use of the card when paying over the Internet? I tried using my credit card on the US version of Amazon.com to find out what they called it, but they didn't end up asking for it (and the last time I tried this sort of experiment, I ended up buying a totally unwanted item and having to cancel it, so now I'm a bit wary!)
Thanks in advance,
Dana

CVV number (Credit Card Validation/Verification)
This is what it's normally called I believe.

card security code
To be preferred to CVC2/CVV2/CID for one simple reason: the French term is generic, like this English one, applying to all the major card issuers, whereas the different acronyms are used by the issuers for their particular proprietary systems and formats.
Of course, if your text is about one known card issuer only, you get brownie points for using that issuer's specific term.

Not that I'm looking for KudoZ points, just pointing out a consideration that the first responders omitted.
