Hi everybody! If "preux" pronounces like the ending of Dupreux, I think I understand pronunciation of Villepreux. Does it?
ormiston Jul 22, 2007:
for the Pierre first name you asked about, it's like -
pee-er

alll in all 4 syllables ! hope this helps

Good morning Richard - I do think the asker will pronounce it right despite the phonetic transcription debate. The schwa has been bothering me ! Can the back-to-front 'e' not be used for the final vowel (as in 'answer' or is it question of accented vowels ?) http://www.antimoon.com/how/pronunc-trans.htm
Note from asker:
Should I pronunce "Pierre Villepreux" as "[pier vi:lpre]" ? Thanks

neutral Richard Benham : Funny, I would have presumed it would be pronounced like the word "preux"!//Well, "preux" does not have a schwa sound; it's a crossed-out "o" sound!

sorry - don't get it (I assumed the person needed it all spelled out!)
neutral Jonathan MacKerron : with Richard

OK I go tthe schwa bit wrong. But I still think without the science the person might get the pronunciation right. The as is 'the reason' as opposed to the(e) other other wy. Very kind of you both to remain neutral, am smarting at the snub..
neutral Scott Horne (X) : Richard is right, of course

I think the accepted answer is slightly misleading. Also, there seems to be some problem with posting HTML here; so I can't reproduce the phonetics. So I have posted what I consider to be the correct pronunciation on a forum. (See link below.)

Hello. I am not familiar with the name Dupreux as such; but I would be surprised if the "-preux" were pronounced any differently from other instances of that name element, which is after all a word in its own right. Anyway, I have posted what I consider to be the standard pronunciation in IPA on the forum above.

I have removed the posted pronunciation, as I assume that anyone who is interested has had time to read it.
