what's the antonym of "parasitic"

What is the antonym of "parasitic" or "parasite". it is Ok if I just use "independent" ?

in semantics In syntax or semantics, soem words are optional but others are obligatory . Such as," the beautifulr girl ". Here "beautiful" is optional; we know who she is even if we donot say "beautiful"; but "the" is oligatory. It helps to construct the mental contact between speaker and hearer.

you could be right - independent

Without more context it's hard to say, as Inge and Peter have said. The following example supports your suggestion.

In its figurative sense, I think "self-reliant" is its antonym.
