Thanks Thanks a lot for every one
Huw Watkins Jun 14, 2007:
In short - be a team player rather than an individualist.
Huw Watkins Jun 14, 2007:
I meant "...complete grammatical sense..." sorry!
Huw Watkins Jun 14, 2007:
In other words be proactive or positive before cutting your ties with the team or falling out with them.
Huw Watkins Jun 14, 2007:
Don't know arabic so cannot comment. However I will say is that the sentence in English makes complete gramatically sense, even if it is a bit unusual. There NO reason why bridge should be in plural here. Build at least one first then you can start burnin
Mohamed El-Awagy (asker) Jun 14, 2007:
More Context Person A: Look, you know I don't want to tell you how to go about doing this, but maybe you should try to build a few bridges over there before you start setting any on fire.
Person B: I don't think that I'm just randomly setting fires to get my kicks.

English term (edited): before you set any bridges on fire
Selected

قبل أن تقطع علاقتك معهم

I think the "any" here refers to the bridges (even though it's not mentioned in the plural here), not to the people.

The expression "burn bridges" means:

to permanently and unpleasantly end your relationship with a person or organization. http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/burn bridges

I should say "بهم" not "معهم" -
قبل أن تقطع علاقتك بهم.

Sorry!

I think your added context confirms that it's about the bridges. It also makes more sense (grammatically) that the bridges are mentioned in the plural (not singluar, like in your first example)
ٍSo you could say عليك بتوطيد بعض العلاقات هناك قبل أن تبدأ في قطع علاقات أخرى

تكوين علاقة حميمة/وطيدة/ملتهبة مع شخص

When we say "a relationship set on fire", it means علاقة ملتهبة meaning a strong and very exciting relationship, such as love.

However, I'm not sure what exactly is meant by the expression in your context.
