se dépasser

French to English Other Gaming/Video-games/E-sports geocaching

PB Trans (asker) May 30, 2007:
Just to clarify The additional context was not in my document. I found it on the client's website.
PB Trans (asker) May 29, 2007:

Note from asker:
Yes, sorry... the French in this document is not very good, which is why I am having difficulty figuring out what they mean.

Yep! I did think of "surpass" but the relevant context came too late :-(

Since you added more context, it is clear that passing is not appropriate. I will go with Danièle's suggestion of surpassing oneself

to excel themselves

might be better than surpassing themselves

outperform themselves

Hello,

I think this would be very contextually appropriate (speaking of video games)

I've seen it used before many times in this context.

My try for all three:

locate themselves, find their bearings and outperform themselves
Peer comment(s):

neutral danièle davout : why not, but is not video games context www.geocatching.com

surpass onesself = outperform oneself, whether this pertains a text dealing with video games or not. Both would work.

15 hrs

to push themselves

Given the extra context, this could be an option.
