During this Christmas with our mixed Norwegian/English family have had a long discussion about what a Norwegian will call "shortbread". Shortbread has a very strong Christmas tradition, and it is said that the best shortbread comes from Scotland. With Scotland's strong links with Norway earlier, there must surely be a word which is truly Norwegian, which applies to shortbread.

Jeg tviler ikke på at mørdeigskake (eller heller mørdeigkake) er en proper og korrekt oversettelse - men problemet er at utenfor vår enge krets ringer det ingen bjeller. Sier du derimot skotsk shortbread, vil alle som noen gang har vært borti det vite hva det er tale om.
