Change log

Aug 4, 2014 13:00: Ahmad Batiran changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Noha Kamal, PhD., Ali Alawadi, Ahmad Batiran

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

randam Dec 19, 2006:
The closest equivalents are: reproof and reproach.
If you are still not happy you can add gentle, ie gentle reproof, or gentle reproach. Some sites I looked at defined "admonition" as gentle reproof but I think the stronger meaning is more common.
Fayez Roumieh Dec 7, 2006:

to reprove

Another possibility. I wouldn't use "blame" though - it's a bit too strong.

to reprove: to criticize or correct, esp. gently: to reprove a pupil for making a mistake.

شكراً جزيلاً - Many Thanks Ali, but reprove=توبيخ وهذا ليس عتاب لأن التوبيخ لايكون بين الأحبة بينما العتاب يكون بين الأحبة كما يقول السياق

to take someone to task

this is the mild mealy-mouth version of to blame/admonish and is probably more suitable for something between equals.

rebuke

Another suggestion:
to rebuke [tv. & n.]

M-W:
1 a : to criticize sharply : REPRIMAND b : to serve as a rebuke to
2 : to turn back or keep down : CHECK
synonym see REPROVE
Example sentence:

كذا عتاب الله تعالى للنبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم - في أسرى بدر

Allaah also rebuked His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning the prisoners of war at Badr

reproach

"reproach" is surely less intense than "blame"
