Anyone remember Hoss in Bonanza? Apparently his name is Norwegian for 'good luck' in tribute to his Scandinavian mother. Not sure how this comes about. Anyone know the background to this??

According to Store norsk-engelsk ordbok, er "hoss" dialekt for "hest". Jeg klarte ikke å finne noe som bekrefter dette, men gitt at moren var norsk, er ikke dette helt usannsynlig...?

: The term "hoss" is also an English dialect/slang word for horse (perhaps just a careless way of saying (horse"), so that does not necessarily have to be due to Scandinavian influence.
