English term

goody-goody people

English to Spanish Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Full sentence: The Golden Rule was never created to turn us into goody-goody people. Target is Mexican Spanish or, better yet, an expression that could work generically in all of Latin America (that is, not excessively regional or country-specific).

agree Giovanni Rengifo : I agree that "santurrones" is the best choice. "beatos" has no tilde. It wouldn´t be my choice

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The rest of the context does suggest a bit of "goody-two-shoes" which in my opinion makes santurrones a slightly better answer than santitos in this case. Thanks to all."

agree kironne : Considering that The Golden Rule" or Ethic of Reciprocity is, in fact "treat others as you would like to be treated" (or "do onto others..."), I think your option is the best!

Es como diríamos nosotros, pero no sé si es muy regional. Veamos si en México también se conoce el término.

santurrones

'La regla de oro no se creó con el propósito de volvernos en santurrones'. Esta frase se usa universalmente en latinoamerica. Me parece que las otras expresiones son un poco más regionales.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Luisa Ramos, CT : Pero es que santurrón es ser beato, que no viene al caso, o hipócrita. GOODY TWO-SHOES - "A person who is affectedly good or proper; a person who is uncommonly good.

en unos buenines

This would work quite well in Mexico, it seems to me. "Buenín" also keeps the root of "goody-goody," which I see as an added benefit. Because we are not really speaking about little saints here.
