For me, "rip-snorting" carries more of an implication of "lots of action" and "excitement" than of "excellence" or "formidability".

Olá Paula,

Please check out the references below in which "rip-snorting" used in connection with a film. In each case, it is used to denote the exciting and action-packed qualities of a film. Implied in this is that the film is good, but this is not the primary meaning.

Thus, *Raiders of the Lost Ark* might be described as "rip-snorting" but a Woody Allen film or a nature documentary, however much they might be praised by a reviewer, would never be described in that way.
