Chinese term

我去年存了一些錢在銀行 (1/2)

Chinese to English Science Education / Pedagogy Grammatical Analysis
Sentence: 我去年存了一些錢在銀行,現在連同利息差不多有五百塊錢了。

1st Attempt: Last year I deposited some money in the bank. Including interest it is now worth about 500 dollars.

Question 1/2: I am somewhat confused about the syntax of the first part of the sentence, and would like to know which syntax is more proper in your opinion? Please provide an explanation for selecting one over the other.

1) 我去年存了一些錢在銀行
2) 我去年在銀行存了一些錢

Question 2/2: What is the meaning of 連 in the second part of this sentence?

1) Could it mean "still" in the sense that the amount has "still" not grown any larger than 500 dollars, or
2) Is it just a rhythmic filler that adds no additional meaning and grammatically speaking can be ignored?

As always you are welcome to comment on other parts of the sentence.

Correction The final rendering is in error. It should have read: "Last year I deposited some money in the bank. Together with interest there are now about 500 dollars.".

FYI

我去年存了一些錢在銀行 = 我去年在銀行存了一些錢
They are both corect.

A. 我去年存了一些錢在銀行 => emphasis on "have deposited"
B. 我去年在銀行存了一些錢 => emphasis on "in the bank" (and not in the post office or other places)

Discussion: Please see http://homepage.mac.com/moogoonghwa/tsongkit/part2/II-9-g.html#s7 for further discussion. Acknowledgement: My thanks to icg for having made clear that prepositional modifiers of place must not always be placed before the verbs that they modify. My thanks also to Wenjer and anastasia t for their helpful confimatory additions. Best wishes from the land of no mountains surrounded by sea on many sides."
