: Buildings are not excavated, they are erected. Excavation is not performed to expose foundations, it is to make space to pour the foundation shoes, slabs etc. i.e. to contain them.

I've worked for Fluor Daniel construction company in Aliso Viejo, CA. I´m sure of this. There are many instances of strutural members for erection of the construction, and in spanish is desplante or construcción.
