Chinese term

費用

Non-PRO Chinese to English Science Education / Pedagogy Grammatical Analysis
Sentence: 去外國留學的費用很大,不但學費貴,連旅費也要不少錢。

First Attempt: The cost of studying overseas is substantial -- not only are tuition fees expensive, but the cost of travel is also high.

Question 1: What is the difference between 費用 and the 費 of 學費, 旅費, etc.? Surely at times they must overlap, surely at others they must be quite different.

For example in economics we always refer to cost as the price of inputs, and expense as money paid out for whatever reason. The term fee tends to be used for flat-rate costs and expenses, and the term rent can refer to the money received or the money paid on rented property.

Discussion:May I refer you to the following link. http://homepage.mac.com/moogoonghwa/tsongkit/part2/II-7b-g.html#s18 Acknowledgement: Thank you icg and li cullen for your helpful responses. As I did not really receive a direct answer to my question; however, it is difficult for me to award full credit. You both seem to agree, however, that in this case the meaning of 費 and 費用 are synonymous. "
