Grammatical Analysis
Sentence: 步行對身體很好的,請你不要老是坐車吧!
1st Attempt: Walking is good for your health, so you do not always have to ride.
I have one more problem with this sentence that I would like to clarify, before I upload your responses to the Tsong Kit website -- namely, the use of 的.
Problem: A long time ago there was a discussion about the overuse of the word 的 among Chinese speakers. Is this not one of those cases?
Using my primitive knowledge of the Chinese language I see to correct renderings, neither of which is the one used by the author.
Rendering 1: 步行對身體很好
Rendering 2: 步行對身體是很好的

I'm sorry that I didn't pay much attention to the first half of the Chinese sentence when I answered the other question. Now, both of your renderings are good.
Rendering 1: 步行對身體很好
Rendering 2: 步行對身體是很好的
但是, Rendering 2: “步行對身體是很好的”的语气比Rendering 1 强一些. In Rendering 2, the fact is more emphasized. It is probablly close to "Walking is very good for your health".
People actually also use 步行對身體很好的 in informal conversation, It is acceptable for oral Chinese, but for language teaching, you may want the standard structure, so my recommendation is to use your rendering 2.

You made me think about Alternative 1 a little more, and I was able to write a more useful note. |
