Hello! To be honest I didn't know, but here's a definition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_of_materials and here's a Google search (332,000 hits)
Lori Dendy-Molz (asker) Apr 9, 2006:
Hi Hilary. The ERP software is not actually from SAP, and since CRM/ERP is not one of my specialties, I'm not sure if I should use the SAP phrase or if I'd be better off going generic. Is BOM commonly used outside SAP?
Lori Dendy-Molz (asker) Apr 9, 2006:
Sorry! I definitely should have mentioned that this ERP system is intended to handle production of print jobs for advertising/marketing (brochures and the like).
BrigitteHilgner Apr 9, 2006:
It would help to know what this relates to (which kind of product). "Parts list" is a good suggestion when it comes to industrial products; if we are looking at consumer products, I would prefer "piece list". (No idea whether SAP uses either term.)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This does appear to be widely used even outside of SAP, so I went with it. Thanks to you both."

commercial parts (or price) lists

I'm assuming that the term relates to lists (with retail prices) of commercially available parts. But then again, SAP might have a totally different name for this creature.
