Hi Noony, sorry if this repeats, but I was trying to add a comment to my first posting and I ended up hiding it and now I can't get it back! So here it is again...
I can't really come up with anything better than this in Spanish, others will surely know, but I thought I could offer an explanation of the term in English.
Being the 'poster boy' or 'poster child' (another common expression) of something (can be just about anything!) means a person who completely embodies that 'thing', who is a perfect representative or typical example of that 'thing'.
In your case, it means that Steve Earle is the perfect example of a rock and roll bad boy. It means when we think of bad boys in music, we think of Steve Earle.
It has nothing to do with actual posters.
