French term

poussette châle

French to English Marketing Marketing Strategy for promotion of children's products
Strategy for promoting a brand of children's fashion and accessories and attracting media/press attention.

o La poussette châle séduira les magazines de mode enfantine et les magazines féminins pour les numéros « Grand froid »

I think it is probably a pushchair with a cosytoes attached but not sure if there is a set name for it in English.

Discussion

Claire Cox Jan 30, 2006:
Any more information? I know chale can be used to mean a baby sling, but how you'd combine a baby sling and stroller, I'm not sure!

I'm beginning to wonder if they are actually referring to this Nursing Shawl from L'ovedbaby. It would fit in with the idea of the baby sling that Claire Cox mentions and the all purpose shawl for the pushchair and bassinet. It still doesn't explain the grammar, as Richard Benham points out :-)
Nursing Shawl by L'ovedbaby
This fantastic nursing shawl is not only convenient but stylish too! It is made of super-soft lightweight ultrasuede and can be slipped over any outfit, allowing moms to discreetly nurse in public. The shawl can also be used as a pregnancy poncho, stroller, carseat and bassinet canopy, or lightweight baby blanket.
This makes a great baby shower gift!

agree Andre de Vries : I have no doubt you are right, just that I would replace stroller with pushchair. I think the asker wants GB English.

Thanks!
neutral Richard Benham : It's a type of "poussette", not a type of "châle".//The point remains, as a matter of pure grammar, regardless of the number of Google hits.

There are zero hits for "poussette châle" or "châle pousette" on Yahoo. These words do not occur together. Therefore, it is a bit of a reasoned guess. // I just agreed with you. I rated my answer a 3, not a 5. It was Yahoo.
neutral Claire Cox : I have reservations about the canopy idea too - that conveys more of a rain hood/sun shade idea to me

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I was also convinced it was a type of "poussette" but this is what I got from the client: "C'est un châle destiné à la femme enceinte et quand elle a accouché on peut poser le châle sur la pousette. Elle appelle ça maxi tricot." So the idea of a nursery shawl seems to fit best. Thanks for all your comments."

poussette/châle, poussette & châle

I really don't see how "châle" can be intended to qualify "poussette".

Might it not be a special sales pitch whereby you buy the pushchair and a (colour-coordinated, etc.) baby shawl together? A bit like buying a bottle of Scotch and getting a shotglass thrown in, getting your photos developed and coming away with a photo album as well, etc.

Pushchair/(baby)shawl combo.

I note that a number of British English speakers I have spoken to recently have used "(baby) buggy", which I would have considered US English. By the same token, I have learnt there is a "dive shop" in Bath (where I would have expected a "diving shop"). What is the world coming to!

I guess if both articles are proudly emblazoned with the manufacturer's name and logo, you stand a better chance of spreading the good word if you have "designer label" on both, since chances are when duddums is in the stroller you can't see the shawl, and when you can see the shawl the stroller is in the basement or the boot of the car.

agree Claire Chapman : I've puzzled over this, too. It surprises me how little connection these two words have in either language in either word order. It does seem like some form of punctuation is missing.

neutral PB Trans : shale refers to the grey colour. The colour shale is named after the sedimentary rock

I agree but .... it is a plausible shot in the dark if the text is referring to the McLaren pushchair. It it is another brand then naturally the information is not relevent.
