Context It was a translation about a concept car from Kia Motors, the Kia Soul. One of the sentences where it showed up was: "A rear brush guard smoothly envelopes the license plate underneath a power lift gate activated by the key fob. And the rear lift gate includes a unique backpack compartment..."

tampa do porta-malas

Designação PT-BR para "lift gate" ("tailgate", nos EUA).

Em Portugal, seria "porta da bagageira" (em veículos 2-volumes, hatchback). A designação "tampa da bagageira" reserva-se normalmente para veículos 3-volumes (sedan).

Lift Gate = The rear opening on a hatchback.
Tailgate = The rear opening of a truck, station wagon or van.

Nota: alguns autores distinguem entre tailgate (tampa com rebatimento descendente) e liftgate (tampa com rebatimento ascendente). O nome será o mesmo, mas a principal diferença é mesmo a utilização regional: tailgate (EUA) e liftgate (mais utilizado no Reino Unido).

Just a guess, by analogy with "power steering" = direção hidráulica.
